I have always been intrigued in leadership, the environment and creating opportunities for young people to have their voices heard.

Over that past few months, I have been involved in different youth and community initiatives.

I am part of the UNESCO Ocean Literacy Community, and I am also a NASA Virtual Guest and Citizen Scientist. I was an Ambassador for a Day with the UK Embassy in Oman.

I have been a She Inspires Award Finalist, a Global Recognition Award recipient, and also received an Honourable Mention from the Women Changing the Worlds Awards. I have also been featured in the book 100 Inspiring Change makers and Doers written by Ayesha Talib.

Climate change is something I believe young people should be involved in. It is not only something adults or governments should talk about. Young prophase are going to live with the future effects of climate change and I believe we should be part of finding solutions.

I contacted the Oman Climate Week team and we started looking at ways that I could be involved. This eventually led me to become the youngest Brand Ambassador for Oman Climate Week.

Before the event, I started creating reels and videos about Oman Climate Week. I talked about what the event was, what was going to happen, and why climate action was important. I also encouraged more young people to learn about climate change and take part in events like these.

Then I got to experience the real event, The Climate Week myself; One of the things that stood out to me the most was around hundreds of people from different backgrounds all coming together. There were people from international organisations, businesses, policy spaces, and different sectors. They were all there to talk about climate change, learn from each other and look at possible solutions.

For me as a 14 year old, it was a learning experience. There were so many topics I didn’t know much about before. I realised that climate change is connected to so many offering areas, and it is much bigger than what we sometimes learn about in school.

But maybe the biggest thing I took from the experience was understanding the importance of youth participation.

I believe young people are not only leaders of tomorrow. We are leaders of today.

I hope Oman continues to create more opportunities for young people to participate in climate discussions, workshops and activities. Sometimes young people just need someone to give them the opportunity and a space to share their ideas.

I think this is very important for Oman Vision 2040. If we want young people to contribute to Oman’s future, we need to involve them now. We can create workshops, activities and spaces where young people can learn about climate issues and come up with their own ideas and solutions.

My experience at Oman Climate Week also taught me something personal. Sometimes you have to go beyond what is familiar to you. You have to reach for opportunities, even if they dont know where they will take you; I found Oman Climate Week because I was looking for something. I reached out because I was interested. And that One step gave me the opportunity to be part of a much bigger conversation.

As a young person from Salalah, I was proud to be a part of it. I hope that my experience can encourage other young people in Oman to do the same. Find something you care about, learn about it, speak up and don’t be afraid to go beyond.
